The Canal provides a route for sea-going vessels at the narrowest part of the Lowlands of Scotland
between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde.
The canal is 35 miles ( 56km ) long.
The eastern end connects to the River Forth via the River Carron near Grangemouth.
