Tollcross House / Tollcross Mansion in Tollcross Park

A grade "A" listed building

History:

James Dunlop ( 1742-1816 ), the eldest son of Colin Dunlop of Carmyle, acquired the Tollcross estate c 1810.
It passed to his son Colin ( 1775-1837 ) and then to Colin's nephew James,
who built the mansion ( designed by David Bryce ) on the site of an older house.
The estate was purchased by Glasgow Corporation in 1896
and Tollcross Park was opened there the following year.
The house became a children's museum and then fell into disrepair.

In the 1980's the museum closed and the building was restored by the National Trust for Scotland
 and converted into self-contained accomodation.
Shettleston Housing Association then acquired the mansion house
and contracted with the then Church of Scotland Board of Social Responsibility
to provide a registered care home service for older people.
This service was de-registered in March 2003 and the current 24-hour supported living service commenced.
