is a prehistoric monument located in the county of Wiltshire
in England,
about 8 miles ( 13km ) north of Salisbury. Stonehenge is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world and is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Archaeologists believe the standing stones were erected around 2200 BC and the surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |

Standing Stones at Kilmartin Glen in Scotland Kilmartin Glen has one of the most important concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland. The
glen is located between Oban and Lochgilphead and surrounds the
village of Kilmartin. There
are more than 350 ancient monuments within a six mile radius of the
village - 150 of them prehistoric.

Newgrange in Ireland Newgrange is
a prehistoric monument in County Meath on the east of Ireland.
It is an example of a megalithic passage tomb mound. Newgrange was built between c3100 - 2900BCE during the Neolithic period to house the dead. It is aligned with the rising sun on the winter solstice when the tomb is flooded with light. |
