The Church was originally built for the United Free Church.

 It was designed by the architect James Millar

 and opened in 1900.

Affectionately called ' The People's Cathedral ',

this is the oldest place of worship in Glasgow

The Church is an "A-listed" building of architectural and historic interest.


 The building was designed by the Scottish architect Robert Rowand Anderson

 and completed in 1888.

The Govan Stones

The Govan Stones

A unique collection of early medieval stones carved in the 9th-11th centuries
to commemorate the rulers of the Kingdom of Strathclyde.
They are one of Glasgow’s most important historical and cultural assets
 and stored in the Govan Old Church

St. Anthony's RC Church in Govan

The church was designed in the Italian Romanesque style

 by John Honeyman.

 It features a square tower with an open arched belfry.

 St Anthony's opened on 26 October 1879.

This was built in 1873 as the St Mary Govan Free Chuch.

 The architect of this Gothic style church was Robert Baldie.

This elaborate, domed, cast-iron, drinking fountain,

produced at the Denny Works of Cruikshanks & Co,

 was erected in 1884

in memorial
to the contribution made by Dr. Aitken

 to the welfare of the community
.
