although a monastery was founded on the site by Cluniac monks in 1163.

Paisley is the largest town in the county of Renfrewshire in the west of Scotland.

It is situated on the northern edge of the Gleniffer Braes on the banks of the White Cart Water.

The town forms a contiguous urban area with Glasgow 

The town came to prominence with the establishment of Paisley Abbey.

This is a grey granite pedestal surmounted by an armoured crusader on a charger,
flanked by four infantrymen. The Memorial was unveiled on Sunday 27th July 1924.

The Thomas Coats Memorial Church in Paisley

The Thomas Coats Memorial Baptist Church in Paisley

This is an example of Gothic Revival architecture.
 The crown spire is more than 60 metres ( 197ft ) in height.
The church was opened in 1894 and is the largest Baptist church in Europe.

The church was built in memory of Thomas Coats
- one of the founders of J & P Coats - the thread manufacturers.

is a prominent landmark in the centre of Paisley.
 It was built around 1750 with the steeple being added in 1770.
