Monte Rosa is a large complex massif - its summits - Dufourspitze ( 4633m ), Nordend ( 4609m ), Zumsteinspitze ( 4563 ), and Signalkuppe ( 4556m ) - are 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the Alps -  Mont Blanc ( 4807m ) being the highest. On the Swiss, northern side, of Monte Rosa glaciers flow towards the Zermatt valley. In contrast on the Italian, southern side, there are steep, rugged precipices.
