 The Andes - 26 Treks & 18 Climbing Peaks  Inca Trail Cusco & Machu Picchu

 

Churup Lake in the Andes of Peru

This is a good acclimatization walk. 

Travelling from Huaraz  to Pitec ( 3850m )

 there are attractive farming settlements at Unchus and Llupa.

From Pitec there is a steady climb to Laguna Churup ( 4440m ) 

- a beautiful turquoise lake beneath Nevado Churup ( 5495m ). 

It is a strenuous hike 

with scrambling up a steep rock gully for the last 100m to the lake. 

It takes about 5 - 6 hours for the return walk from Pitec to the lake.
