Mount Makalu in the Nepal Himalaya - the world's fifth highest mountain

One of the the world's fourteen 8000ers and the world's 5th highest mountain.

First climbed by a French expedition in 1955.
The NW ridge route is mostly snow and ice and averages 50 degrees
 until the summit gully which is some 65 degrees.
