A Photo Gallery of Mount Manaslu ( 8163m )
the world's eighth highest mountain
and neighbouring Peaks
in the Nepal Himalaya
Manaslu was first climbed in 1956 by a Japanese expedition. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word "Manasa", meaning 'intellect' or 'soul'. Just as the British considered Everest to be their mountain, Manaslu has always been a 'Japanese' mountain. The record on Manaslu in 2002 was 175 summiteers, 120 expeditions and 49 deaths.
