A Photo Gallery of Mount Manaslu ( 8163m )the world's eighth highest mountain and neighbouring Peaks in the Nepal Himalaya Manaslu was first climbed in 1956
by a Japanese expedition. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word "Manasa",
meaning 'intellect' or 'soul'. Just as the British considered Everest
to be their mountain, Manaslu has always been a 'Japanese' mountain.
The record on Manaslu in 2002 was 175 summiteers, 120 expeditions and
49 deaths.
