Astronauts on board the International Space Station recently used their vantage point to photograph the Himalayas looking south from over the Tibetan Plateau. Mt. Makalu (8,462 meters; 27,765 feet) is on the left of the photo and Mt. Everest (8,850 meters; 29,035 feet) is on the right. The full mosaic covers over 130 kilometers (80 miles) of the Himalaya chain. This image is part of a larger mosaic of the Himalaya that can be viewed interactively. |
