
1. Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding:
By plane to Lukla ( or see Arun Valley and Jiri for trekking
access routes ).
Walk up Dudh Khosi Valley to Phakding.
2. Phakding - Namche Bazaar:
Continue up-valley to enter Sagarmatha National Park ( permit
required ).
Steep climb through forests to reach Namche Bazaar.
3.
Namche Bazaar - Thyangboche:
Climb out of amphitheatre into the Imja Khola Valley.
View ahead of Ama Dablam and Everest above Nuptse-Lhotse Wall.
Contour along valley-side before descending to cross river.
Climb to reach Thyangboche on col.
Renowned viewpoint.
4. Thyangboche - Pangboche - Bibre:
Continue up the Imja Khola Valley.
Views of Kwande Ri, Kang Taiga, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Everest,
Lhotse.
5. Bibre - Chukhung:
Morning: Cross Imja Khola and climb to plateau beneath Ama Dablam
for fine
viewpoint:- Numbur, Kwande Ri, Island Peak, Lhotse, Nuptse,
Taboche, Chalotse.
Afternoon: Proceed up valley to Chukung.
6. Climb Chukhung Ri: ( c5600 metres )
Fine viewpoint directly beneath Lhotse:- Island Peak, Makalu,
Baruntse, Ama Dablam.
7. Chukhung - Bibre: ( 1/2 day )
8. Bibre - Kongma La Base Camp:
Climb steep slopes above Bibre.
Increasingly fine views as altitude gained of Upper Chukung
Valley, Makalu, Baruntse.
Camp near entrance to large amphitheatre.
View directly across Chukung Valley to Ama Dablam.
Climb to rocky peak above for close-up view of Nuptse-Lhotse Wall.
9. Kongma La BC - Kongma La ( c5400 metres ) -
Lingtern:
Continue into amphitheatre and climb to higher corrie/ cymn.
Beyond corrie lochan climb steeply to narrow col.
View across Khumbu Glacier to Lobuje Peak.
Steep descent over rough scree.
Camp on grassy meadows below in secluded campsite.
View of Taboche and Cholatse.
Climb to spur for view over Lingtern Pokhari to Pumori.
10. Lingtern - Lobuje: ( 1/2 day )
Traverse Khumbu glacier to reach Lobuje.
11. Climb Kallar Pattar ( c5500 metres ):
Proceed up valley alongside the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep (
original site of Everest Base Camp ).
Climb small hill above for outstanding viewpoint:- Everest,
Nuptse, Pumori.
12. Lobuje - Dzongla:
Return down valley on main trail for short distance before
diverting right and climbing into side-valley.
View across to Ama Dablam.
Continue past the lake beneath Cholatse to cluster of lodges at
Dzongla.
Proceed higher for nice campsite on grassy flats beside stream
before final climb
to pass.
13. Dzongla - Chola La ( c5400 metres ) - Thagna:
Climb steeply through boulder field and proceed onto glacier.
View down valley to Ama Dablam.
Gradual ascent to col.
View across glacier to Lobuje Peak.
Steep descent on rough scree then across moorland to small
settlement at Na.
14. Thagna - Gokyo: ( 1/2 day )
Traverse Ngozumpa Glacier to join main trail to Gokyo Village.
View up glacier to Cho Oyu.
15. Climb Gokyo Ri ( c5400 metres ):
Ascend hill above village for fine viewpoint: Ngozumpa Glacier,
Cholatse and Taboche, Summit of Everest,
Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang.
16. Gokyo - Gyazumba Pokhari:
Proceed up-valley alongside the Ngozumpa Glacier.
Encamp in nice location at Gyazumba Pokhari.
17. Gyazumba Pokhari - Cho Oyu Base Camp:
Continue along ablation valley to reach the Khumbu Panch Pokhari
-
a set of small lochans in a spectacular location at the head of
Gokyo Valley ensconced beneath Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang.
18. Explore/ climb rock peak: ( c5600 metres )
Ascend one or more of the surrounding rock peaks for close-up
views of Cho Oyu.
19. Cho Oyu BC - Gokyo:
