Mani walls are frequently found alongside paths in regions of Tibetan Buddhism. These structures are built from carved stone tablets with the inscription "Om Mani Padme Hum" ( "Hail to the jewel in the lotus" ). These walls should be passed on the left side, the clockwise direction in which the earth and the universe revolve, according to Buddhist doctrine. To pass on the right-hand side is considered unlucky. |
