Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world
 and considered one of the most beautiful of the 8000m peaks.
 First climbed by a French expedition in 1955.
The NW ridge route is mostly snow and ice and averages 50 degrees
 until the summit gully which is some 65 degrees.
